MOA ADR USES
  • Rapidly acting bactericidal agents, have detergent like action on cell membrane
  • They have high affinity for phospholipids causing distortion of CM or pseudo pore formation
  • Little or no absorption from oral route
  • Applied topically are safe
  • Rash
  • Orally– N, V, D
  • Systemic toxicity (when injected) is high: flushing and paresthesia (Due to release of histamine from mast cell), marked kidney damage, neurological disturbances, NM blockade
  • Topically– Skin infection, burns, otitis externa, conjunctivitis, corneal ulcer
  • Orally– gram negative bacillary diarrhea (E. coli, Salmonella, Shigella)
  • Pseudomonas superinfection enteritis
